Graduate and Celebrate: Warwickshire Children's University™

“The aim of the Children’s University™ is to raise the aspirations of young people in Warwickshire. By giving them the opportunity to take part in different kinds of meaningful learning, we are helping them find inspiration in their education and increase their confidence. This ceremony is a way of congratulating them on their achievements. We are also extremely grateful to the University of Warwick for kindly hosting this event”. The 2008 Warwickshire Children's University™ Graduation ceremony hosted by the University of Warwick was a very proud event. Over 100 children from 12 schools and 3 partner venues received their Gold, High Achievers and Special Awards from Marion Davies, Strategic Director, Children, Young People and Families and Ger Graus, Chief Executive of National Children's University™.

Collectively the children had taken part in over 10,368 hours of voluntary out of school hour activities. Each child has participated in a minimum of nine different activities. Children from The Revel CE Primary School and Michael Drayton Junior School performed during the ceremony, to the delight of the audience.

Congratulations to all the children involved and especially the school and partner staff who support them."

Graduate and Celebrate: Warwickshire Children’s University™ 2007

Marion Davis, Strategic Director for Children, Young People and Families for Warwickshire County Council, and Professor Alan Prout, Director of the Institute of Education at the University of Warwick, will present the awards (pictured above).

Marion Davis said: “We are proud to celebrate the achievements of the children of Warwickshire who have worked hard before and after-school and in the holidays to study at the Children’s University™.”

The ceremony took place in November 2007 to celebrate the achievment of Gold, High Achievers or Special Plaque awards for more than 7,300 hours of out of hour’s voluntary activity.

A Chinese Lion Dance performed by pupils from Woodside Primary in Atherstone, and a premier performance from the mini opera ‘Children of the Dark’ by St Marie’s Catholic Junior School in Rugby were two of the treats in store for more than 100 young ‘graduates’.
