The Children's University is a national intiative which encourages children to commit their spare time and energy to exciting and innovative learning activities and experiences which take place outside of normal school hours.
Many schools already offer a wide range of positive learning activities out of school time. The Children's University complements this and enhances this provision by recognising and celebrating the importance of out of school hours learning (Study Support).
Sheffield Children University
a university without walls...
Research shows a clear link between participation in study support activities and academic progress due to increased self-esteem and confidence.
Sheffield Children's University offers schools and organisations an inspiring way to:
- increase pupils' motivation to learn
- raise aspirations by empowering children to make their own choices about learning
- be part of a prestigious national intiative
- contribute to the five Every Child Matters outcomes
- provide personalised learning beyond the classroom
Many schools offer a wide range of positive learning activities out of normal lesson time in which children choose to participate. The CU framework adds value to this work by providing a framework to record and celebrate children's participation in out of school hours (study support).
Schools and organisations registering as Children's University centres will be eligible to apply to host specially designed modules created by Sheffield CU team and are also encouraged to register their own study support activities that meet CU validation criteria.
