Ger Graus - Chief Executive
Ger Graus - born near Maastricht in the Netherlands – officially took up his position as founding Chief Executive of the national Children’s University on 16th April 2007.
Between January 2000 and March 2007, Ger was the Director of the two Wythenshawe Education Action Zones based in the south of Manchester. The Wythenshawe Education Action Zones were and are viewed as one of the leading proponents of private/public sector partnership in school improvement.
As a graduate of the Universities of Tilburg and Nijmegen, Ger moved to the United Kingdom in 1983 when he began his teaching career at Taverham High School in Norwich. He next moved on to a management position at Winifred Holtby School in Hull. Between 1991 and 1996, he was an Adviser for Manchester City Council, responsible for the introduction of Modern Foreign Languages into primary schools. Ger was also a co-optee on the National Curriculum Working Group for Modern Foreign Languages. In 1996, he became Senior Inspector for Salford City Council and there he was charged with the responsibility to introduce the Government’s Excellence in Cities initiative in 1999. Ger was awarded a Honorary Doctorate by Staffordshire University in July 2011.
Ger Graus lives in Bollington, Cheshire and has two children, Tom aged 14 and Anna aged 15.
