A Viking’s Guide to Deadly Dragons
A Viking’s Guide to Deadly Dragons is a wonderful exhibition based on Cressida Cowell’s best-selling books How to Train Your Dragon. Come to Norwich Castle and be transported to a world where Vikings rule and dragons roam. Discover Berk, the island home of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third. Join this unlikely hero on his adventures with his tribe of Hairy Hooligans and Toothless, his hunting dragon. The exhibition has been created by Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children’s Books. See the author’s notebooks, get up close to her original illustrations and listen to filmed interviews. Enjoy creative play, dress as a Viking, visit the Hooligan village and wild dragon cave. Whether you are already a fan of How to Train Your Dragon or encountering Hiccup and Toothless for the first time, you will find A Viking’s Guide to Deadly Dragons a delightful and inspirational exhibition. ST*ART Painting
A Six Week, Artist-led Course at Norwich Castle for 8-12 year olds Starts Saturday 7 May Join us for an exciting Saturday morning art club for children, inspired by Norwich Castle's fascinating art galleries and collections. Sessions are led by award-winning Norfolk based artist Ali Atkins, and are designed to develop children’s confidence and creativity through fun activities and workshops, and to fuel their curiosity and encourage a deeper engagement with culture. Over six weeks the children get to know one another and form a collaborative, creative team of young artists – then at the end of the course they work together to create an exhibition displaying their journey, and artworks, to friends and family. The first and most recent course ST*ART Drawing got the initiative off to a flying ‘ST*ART’ with wire drawing, fresh sketching techniques, life drawing and explorations of the Castle Galleries. The drawing exhibition also featured in the Eastern Daily Press>> Children aged 8-12 living within a 20 mile radius of Norwich are eligible to enrol. Cost: £45 for all six sessions: 7, 14, & 21 May (followed by a two week break), then 11, 18 & 25 June (exhibition), 10am - 12.30pm. Email julia.stafford@norfolk.gov.uk or call 01603 493636 to book.
