Children 8-12 Rookie Lifeguards – Children begin learning basic first aid skills in 30min dry-side sessions and, in a 1 hour pool session, children begin to develop personal survival and initial rescue techniques. Children can gain badges through the scheme. The scheme begins with Stage 1 of the Bronze Award and progresses to Stage 3 of the Gold Award, starting off at an ability level suitable for brand-new swimmers and progressing to the level where our Rookie Lifeguards perform impressive lifesaving tows. http://www.rlss.org.uk/awards-activities/rookie-lifeguard/ Children 12-16+ Survive & Save Awards – In a 1 hour dry session, children develop first aid skills and are taught the basics of CPR on adults, children and infants. Children also learn about different types of water features, including their specific dangers. In the 1 hour pool session children learn self-rescue, survival and rescue skills as well as lifesaving sport skills. Children can gain awards through the scheme. There are four award areas to achieve, the Medallion Awards, the Beach Awards, the Stillwater Awards and the Sport Awards and you can choose to specialise in one area or learn a broader range of skills by completing multiple awards. The highest achievement in the Survive & Save Programme is the Distinction Award, which is awarded to those who achieve 3 Gold Level awards within a 24 month period.
