To encourage reading within the local community. Returning to The Brig to borrow and read more books to improve literacy. Altofts Community Book Scheme is a community library based at The Brig. It isn't a traditional library. It’s a way of sharing books across the community. They have a wide selection of very good quality fiction and non-fiction books for children, and also stock a range of large print and audio books. This is to encourage children to enjoy books to improve their literacy and spelling. Through reading children improve their spelling, grammar and knowledge as well as enjoying the story. It can help them build up their confidence to write themselves and perhaps even enter a children’s writing competition.
