Children will be shown how to set and light a fire using traditional firelighting techniques and then have a go themselves. Children will be also be shown how to mix and cook some simple campfire recipes and then have a go themselves, introducing them to the skills of fire lighting, following recipe instructions, and health and safety around food and fires. Discover Nature pack
Do you have a young David Attenborough or Chris Packham in the family? Would you like your children to learn more about the wildlife of Ferry Meadows? New children's Discover Nature packs are now available to borrow free of charge from the Visitor Centre at Ferry Meadows. Discover Nature packs contain everything budding naturalists will need to learn more about the plants and animals that can be seen at Ferry Meadows. Guiding children through their discoveries is Olly the friendly Otter who features in a specially designed booklet including activities and information for Children aged 3 and up. Once the pack is completed bring it back to the visitors centre to receive your passport to learning stamp. Felted Christmas Puddings Sun 17-12-17 @ 10:30
A fun workshop using felt onto balloons to create felted Christmas Puddings/glittery snowballs in felt with Charron Pugsley-Hill and Artisan Felter Eve Marshall. Suitable for all the family with children age 6+. Booking is required as soon as possible as spaces are limited. Cost £10 per person. Ferry Meadows Family Fun Trail
As a result of taking part in the trail children will: - Learn about wildlife by interacting with their environment. - Gain confidence in problem solving. - Gain a greater appreciation for their local environment and heritage. Depending on the subject of the trail children may also: - Learn about specific historical events (e.g Jubilee Trail), cultural and sporting activities (e.g Olympic Trail) or aspects of the natural environment (e.g. “all mixed up” trail). Children collect a trail sheet from the visitor centre and use it to follow a 1 mile route around Ferry Meadows Country Park. Along the route children will encounter “trail boards” which will feature a question or challenge for the children to solve. After completing the trail children return to the visitor centre to have their answers checked by a member of staff and receive their prize. Trails are only available during school holidays and a different trail is offered every holiday. Each trail will have a different theme which may be linked to a particular time of year (e.g. Christmas) or may encourage pupils to use different skills (e.g code breaker trail).

Ferry Meadows Wild Wednesdays
At frequent intervals throughout the year and during school holidays, staff at Nene Park Trust run “drop in” style craft activities for children. At these activity sessions children have the opportunity to make a craft item to take home. Wherever possible crafts are selected to encourage children to engage with the environment by using natural objects or involving some form of recycling of materials. Children are provided with all the materials they will need to complete the craft as well as full instructions on how to proceed. Nene Park Trust staff are on hand to offer assistance when required and ensure that all children are working safely. Examples of craft activities offered include: making minibeast mobiles from recycled materials, making plant pots from old newspaper and using them to grow sunflower seeds, making “green man” masks decorated with leaf rubbings. As a result of taking part in activities children will: Gain experience working independently. Gain experience following instructions to achieve a target outcome. Making Santa's Washing Felt Workshop Sun 17-12-17 @ 13:00
A family workshop with Charron Pugsley-Hill and Eve Marshall Artisan Felter to create a felted washing line of Santa's Clothes as last seen in the Park at Christmas 2016. Join Education Officer Anna Thompson on a mini safari to track them down and find out about their lives. Children will work under the guidance of our expert staff using specialist equipment to investigate the invertebrate species living in the woods of Ferry Meadows. They will have an opportunity to learn about how animals are adapted to their environment and explore the ways in which different species interact with their environment and with each other.
