'20 fun learning activities to do at half-term'
Following on from the success of our Summer Challenge sheet, we have developed a new one called '20 fun learning activities to do at half-term'. It contains lots of ideas for things to do at home to keep you learning during the half-term holidays, such as make a leaf crown, carve a pumpkin or create a leaflet about hibernation. Huge thanks to Ms Bradley of Hillside Avenue Primary School for creating it. To get your passport stamped, you need to either: 1) Take evidence (such as a workbook, photos) of the activities completed into your school. 2) Take evidence of the activities completed into your local library.

DramActive Taster
DramActive Taster involves various mini drama workshops for varying age groups. The first is 4-8yrs, the second 8-12yrs and the third 12+yrs. These sessions involve costumes, props, exploring creative writing ideas, and play making, movement and space-focus exercises and confidence boosting activities.

Mini Medical School
Aspiring doctors aged 8-12 years old will be given the chance to try out their medical skills thanks to an exciting new programme as Norfolk hosts the first Mini Medical School in the UK during half term! The charity 'Help Me I’m A Medic' have asked the Norfolk Children’s University to help them pilot this exciting new initiative. The findings from this pilot will be used to help roll the programme out nationwide in 2016. Around 50 children will attend the medical school over 2 days and will take part in a series of hands-on workshops to discover how the heart works, how to help someone who is having an asthma attack, how to give CPR and how to save someone who is choking.

NCU goes ninja is a taster karate session for children ages 4+ and their parents to find out about Karate and take part in a mini karate session, learning the basics of the sport and being given the opportunity to demonstrate the new skills they've learnt.

Nelson's Journey Purple Picnic
Family Learning Challenges - March/April 2016 By taking part in these very special holiday challenges, you will help local charity Nelson’s Journey to support bereaved children across Norfolk by planning your very own Purple Picnic! Plan your event during Purple Picnic Week (13th19th June) or anytime you choose over the Summer. Your picnic can be as crazy or as traditional as you like and don’t forget, you can earn CU credits for completing each and every one of the important planning tasks.

Woodland Trust - Nature Detectives
Exploring the natural world makes other school subjects, such as reading, mathematics, science and social studies, more relevant and truly gets children excited about learning. Nature Detectives provide free activities and learning aids that encourage children to embrace the natural world around them, such as our Schools Into Woods scheme and Green Tree Schools Award programme. Write on Norfolk Story writing competition
Enter the Write on Norfolk story writing competition to earn 3 Children’s University credits. Children aged between 5 years and 13 years can enter. It can be a poem, a story, a letter or a diary entry so long as it includes something about Norfolk, and it doesn’t go over the 500 words limit. Online entry only via www.norfolk.gov.uk/writeon . Print off the certificate once you’ve submitted your story and take it along to your local library to earn your credits.
