Animal Agents, Summer Reading Challenge 2017
The Summer Reading Challenge 2017 starts in libraries on July 15. The theme for 2017 is Animal Agents and the challenge to children is to read six library books of their choice during the summer holidays. Children join at their local library, as they read over the summer , they use their wits and powers of observation to sift through clues to solve a mystery and catch a crafty crook. They'll even pick up some stinky stickers along the way. Children’s University participants can also take their passport to their local library and have it stamped for one hour of Children’s University learning per book – so up to 6 hours of Children’s University learning if they read all 6 books. In addition, they can earn up to a further 4 hours if they complete extension activities or any specially organised local activities.

Beyond Cowboys: the ‘Wild West’
In this activity, you will learn about the history and geography of the American ‘Wild West’ through looking at popular Hollywood films, maps, folk stories, legends, and United States politics. As you read about the ‘Wild West’ you will come to understand how difficult it is to find a definition for the American West both in terms of where it is, and when it was. Catching Dreams with Pocahontas. Sharing World Stories – American stories that begin in Norfolk
In this activity, you read the history of a real life Native American princess named Pocahontas and make a Native American dream catcher. As you write about Pocahontas, you will learn more about Native Americans, American history, and how America and Norfolk (the county in which you live) are connected. Also, as you make a piece of Native American Craft, you will understand more about the art, beliefs and folklore of different cultures. How To Be A Pirate
Saturday 14th May 10am – 2pm Join us for pirate fun! How to be a Viking
To celebrate the new How to Train Your Dragon exhibition at Norwich Castle Museum, the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library will be playing host to a tribe of Vikings. Come and join them, to learn about how to be Viking and take part in some fun activities. Saturday 6th February 11.30-3.00

If I were President: Linkin’ Lincoln and Norfolk
In this activity, you will learn about the life and presidency of Abraham Lincoln, and his family connections to Norfolk. As you write a ‘proclamation’ to decide what laws you would make for your country if you were leader, you will develop your writing skills, and as you make an American flag, you will not only improve your art skills but also learn about the meanings behind the markings and designs on the flag itself. ImagiNation
ImagiNation is an arts and reading project for 11-18yr olds running across Norfolk and the East. The aim is to read 4 books over the Summer. After reading a book we want you to get creative! You’ll get a log when you join the project that you can use to record how a book made you feel. You don’t have to write lots if you don’t want to: instead you could paint a picture, take a photo or write a poem. ImagiNation is free to take part in- so pick up your ImagiNation Log from your local library in the Summer Holidays. Only available from July 11th – September 3rd 2015

The theme for 2015 is Record Breakers, created in partnership with Guinness World Records ™, and the challenge to children is to read six library books of their choice during the summer holidays. Children join at their local library, and collect stickers at each stage of the challenge, at the same time finding out about some of the astonishing real-life achievements and world records featured in the Guinness World Records Books. Children’s University participants can also take their passport to their local library and have it stamped for one hour of Children’s University learning per book – so up to 6 hours of Children’s University learning if they read all 6 books. In addition, they can earn up to a further 4 hours if they complete extension activities or any specially organised local activities.

The Summer Reading Challenge 2018 starts in libraries on July 14. The theme for 2018 is Mischief Makers and the challenge to children is to read six library books of their choice during the summer holidays. Children join at their local library, as they read over the summer , they'll collect stickers to add to a brilliant Beanotown poster! You can sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge at any Norfolk Library over the summer- and look out for extra special events too! Children’s University participants can also take their passport to their local library and have it stamped for one hour of Children’s University learning per book – so up to 6 hours of Children’s University learning if they read all 6 books. In addition, they can earn up to a further 4 hours if they complete extension activities or any specially organised local activities.

Teddy Roosevelt and the Teddy Bears’ Picnic
This activity will help you to understand more about American history and President Teddy Roosevelt. As you colour a picture of Teddy Roosevelt, sing a song about Teddy Bears, and read about his life. You will learn about what he did how he helped to change the Grizzly Bear from a scary beast to a loveable cuddly friend. When Einstein Came to Cromer
Saturday 14th May 1.30 – 2.30pm Did you know that Einstein was a refugee in Cromer in 1933? Learn about Einstein, science and inventions, and take part in a variety of experiments. Try light-bending glasses, see the Van der Graaf Machine and enjoy other scientific fun in a session run by Mad Science. And try to spot the Mad Scientists around Cromer, 12-1pm. Please pre-book.
