Elections and Voting Workshop
This workshop introduces students to the concepts of manifestos, ballots and voting, and can cover school, local community or national issues. The activity is based on the ‘first past the post’ system used in UK general elections but can be adapted to show other voting systems.

Introduction to Parliament Assembly
This session provides a general overview of the work and role of Parliament - an interactive PowerPoint presentation is used to explain the basic concepts of the Houses of Parliament. Students are given an overview of the work of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords and the roles of MPs and Lords.

Making Laws Workshop
This workshop not only introduces the work of MPs and Lords but also gives students an overview of how a bill goes through Parliament to become law. It can be based on a school, local community or national issue and can be used as an extension to the ‘Elections and Voting’ activity.

Your Voice: Debating Workshop
Within this session, both informal and formal debating techniques are used to lead into a mini debate following either Commons or Lords procedures (simplified). Taking issues that students identify themselves, a variety of methods are used to encourage participation from all students and to encourage them to think from a viewpoint other than their own.
