About Blackburn Children's University
Blackburn Children’s University (CU) has been running since January 2010 and has continued to grow from strength to strength. This year Blackburn CU has been involved in some national funding and expanded into 5 new schools, one of these being St Aidan’s. These changes are giving more children the opportunity to try and learn new things. I wonder what will happen next year!
Currently Blackburn CU works with: -
- Sacred Heart Primary School
- St Michael with St John Primary School
- St Silas Primary School
- Wensley Fold Primary Academy
- St Aidan's Primary School - A Church of England Academy
- Feniscowles Primary School
- St Francis Primary School
- The Redeemer Primary School
- Avondale Primary School
During this year we have provided a varied and exciting range of activities.
The University Centre at Blackburn College has continued to help run a number of activities for the children. Children have learnt about World War One at the museum, Illustrations, using a Makey Makey and Fire Rescue.
In the holidays children in some schools have been able to take part in various activities including fun with plants, drama, sports, martial arts, arts and crafts, cooking and many more. The list could go on! Families have also been given the opportunity to go on trips out to the Museum of Science and Industry and also Gulliver’s World.
Over the year we have had a number of trips for Children’s University members in some of the schools. These were a trip to the Chill Factorᵉ, Chester Zoo and most recently a combined trip to Legoland and the Sealife Centre, Manchester.
